Using this map

Restaurants

This tag is self-explanatory: Black icons feature favorite eateries around the world. Click on each location to view the restaurant’s (or market’s) address, website, and open hours.

Breweries

True to Ryan’s love of all things hops, you can browse through his favorite microbrew destinations marked by marigold icons.

Bars & Taprooms

Blue icons denote key bars and taprooms. Unlike Breweries (marked by marigold icons), these Bars & Taprooms often serve a variety of local selections rather than exclusively their own creations.

Coffee & Bakeries

We’re coffee fanatics, and in particular, we’re mildly obsessed with local coffee from craft roasters. (You will not be finding Starbucks or other chains on this map.) Coffee-brown icons denote our favorite coffeeshops and bakeries around the world.

Sites & Things to Do

The theme of this chartreuse-colored collection is “places to wander aimlessly”. Unlike the Museums & Landmarks group, most—if not all—of these destinations are free of charge, often open 24/7, and encompass anything from roam-worthy neighborhoods to local attractions (e.g., kabuki theatres, bamboo forests, gardens, Pokémon Centers). Please note that all religious destinations (shrines, cathedrals, temples) are grouped within this category.

Museums & Landmarks

The collection of plum-colored icons denotes esteemed landmarks, museums, memorials, and castles, the majority of which require some form of admission.

Places to Stay

Finally, purple place markers with a tell-tale bed icon signify some of our favorite hotels, hostels, inns, and bed and breakfasts around the world. We highly recommend using Hotels.com to manage all bookings; for every 10 nights, members get a free night worth the average price spent on the previous 10 nights, which can be applied in any quantity toward future stays.
